The Wolverine boys’ soccer team clashed with the Chattooga Indians Monday night looking to notch their second win of the season. And the Wolverines did just that, cooking up a stellar performance to toast the Indians 3-0. Javier Mayo found the back of the net twice, and Leonard Riby tacked on a third (PK). Mayo’s first bag came in the 20th minute of first half play when Everett Christiansen slotted Mayo through at the top of the eighteen for a one-touch finish. Despite numerous opportunities, the Wolverines failed to score again until a galvanizing reset at half brought the Dade boys back into their game. Gritty work from Chandler Bailey earned the Wolverines a penalty kick in the 51st minute of play, Leonard Riby rifling home from the spot. Shortly thereafter, Micah Evearitt and Braden Johnson unlocked the Chattooga defense to put Bailey in on goal. Bailey’s initial effort was saved, but Mayo smashed home his second on the rebound. A solid defensive effort from the back line – Danny Darby, Paul Phillips, Everett Christiansen – preserved a second clean sheet for keeper Grant Moore.
The boys roll again Tuesday at 7:30 hosting the Indians and looking to improve on their 3-0 victory. C’mon you Wolverines!
