The Wolverine baseball squad, led by head coach Chris Brown, stole the lead late and defeated Fannin County 4-2 on Monday. The game was tied at two with Dade County batting in the bottom of the fifth when Landon Williams drew a walk, scoring one run. Dade County got things moving in the first inning, when Hughes induced Williams to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored. In the top of the third inning, Fannin County tied things up at two. Fannin County scored one run when Hughes singled.
Brett Kay was the winning pitcher for Dade County. The ace allowed six hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out six and walking one. Hughes was on the hill for Fannin County, surrendered four runs on three hits over four and a third innings, striking out one. Fox, Bennett, and Postell each contributed in relief for Fannin County. Kaden Moore went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Wolverines in hits. Dade County didn’t commit a single error in the field. Pearson led Fannin County with two hits in three at bats.
The Wolverines improve to 5-8 overall and 3-1 in Region 7AA. Dade County will travel to Fannin County on Wednesday with the Rebels returning the favor for the final game of the series on Friday at 5:00 PM.
