Boys Varsity Baseball · Big 5th Inning Propels Dade County to Victory in Home Opener Versus Rival NSM 11-1

Nine runs in the fifth inning led the Dade County Wolverines past North Sand Mountain 11-1 on Thursday. Landon Williams, Brayden Nethery, Eli Kimball, Brodie Swader, and Brett Kay each had RBIs in the frame. North Sand Mountain opened up scoring in the first inning when Harley Tucker drew a walk, scoring one run. Dade County pulled away for good with two runs in the third inning. In the third, an error scored one run for Dade and Kay singled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run. The Wolverines notched nine runs in the fifth inning.

Brodie Swader led the Wolverines to victory on the mound. The bulldog went two and a third innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out three and walking one. Harley Tucker took the loss for North Sand Mountain. The pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on two hits and striking out three. Brett Kay started the game for Dade County. The ace lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out five. Kay, Dylan Dwyer, Nolan Heath, Swader, Colton Emmett, Nethery, and Kimball each managed one hit to lead Dade County.  Swader led the way with two steals on the base path. Dade County didn’t commit a single error in the field.
