Girls Varsity Basketball · DCHS Girls Basketball Gears Up for State Playoffs, Details Here

Wolverine Fans,

For the first time since 2017, both of our basketball teams will be playing in the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs together.  Our girls team, who did qualify for the state playoffs last season, are anxious to wipe away from their memory the heartbreaking 39-37 last second loss they experienced a year ago to the hands of Lamar County.  The Region 7AA Lady Wolverines (12-7) will travel to South Atlanta HS to compete against the Lady Hornets (20-5) from Region 6AA in the first round matchup this Tuesday, Feb 23rd, at 5:30pm.  Unfortunately, many of you will not be able to attend.  South Atlanta has some very strict guidelines for attendance, due to Covid.  Chattooga experienced this in the football playoffs, playing a game versus South Atlanta HS with NO fans.  Our Lady Wolverines will experience the same on Tuesday.

You will be able to listen to a live radio broadcast on WKWN (1420AM, 101.3FM, or by downloading the WKWN App on your phone).  DCHS Athletic Director, Brent Cooper, and DCHS Principal Jamie Fahrney or Head Football Coach, Jeff Poston, will be broadcasting live for our fans back home.  We’re not professional radio broadcasters, by any means, but we will do our best to paint you a mental picture of what’s going on.  We are also working on bringing you a live streaming of the game on NFHS network for those of you that have an account.  If you do not have an account, you can sign up for a $10 monthly fee.  You can cancel your subscription at anytime.  Due to these two subpoints M & N, provided in the GHSA State Basketball Tournament Guidelines, we MUST adhere to the attendance and COVID guidelines provided by the host school.  It is one of the perks I guess from being able to host.  If we were hosting, we would welcome you all, but we are not.  We did offer to host so that all fans could attend, but that offer was declined.

M. Spectator attendance is under the control of the host school system and local Board of Health, but must be equitable by both competing schools.

N. COVID-19 GHSA Basketball Rules Modification may be found on the GHSA website and must be adhered to at all times.

Read the summary of COVID and attendance guidelines below.  These were shared with us by Michael Reddick, AD and girls basketball coach at South Atlanta HS.
