At Dade County High School it seems the number of wrestlers qualifying to wrestle in the GHSA State Traditional Tournament increases each year. This year that number rose to eleven. More importantly, as a team, the Wolverine wrestling team claimed a second Area 7AA Championship in the last couple weeks, one during the Area 7AA Team Duals and, most recently, Thursday during the Area Traditional Tournament. The following wrestlers won first place in their respective weight class: (106) Jr. Jake Gatlin, (120) Soph. Garrett Dunn, (145) Jr. Cayden Cooper, (152) Jr. Zach Smith, (182) Jr. Cody Williams, (195) Fr. Landon Williams. To qualify for the GHSA State Traditional next week in Macon, Georgia, on Feb. 9th & 10th, wrestlers must finish in the top three of their weight class. Also qualifying for State were (113) Jr. Hayden Langley – 2nd, (132) Fr. Brandon Willerson – 3rd, (170) Sr. Eli Johnson – 3rd, (220) Jr. Austin Sorrelle – 2nd, (285) Jr. Dakota Whitmore – 3rd. (160) Fr. Jax Guinn placed 4th in one of the toughest weight classes in the State.
Congratulations to all those who qualified for the right to wrestle for a State Championship next week and to the team for winning the Area 7AA Traditional Championship! Good luck next week Wolverines! Thank you Coach Jeff Poston and Coach Andy Williams for a job well done this season. Finish Strong!
