I think fans would agree that the community is proud of this team for not giving up when giving up would’ve been very easy to do Friday night. Going into halftime, Dade County was down 13-35 with Gordon Central scoring with no time on the clock in the first half. Uncle Mo was nowhere in sight on Dade County’s sideline.
However, as I’ve stated before, you can tell about the character of a team in how they respond to adversity. With injuries already beginning to take its toll on this team, the Wolverines lost yet another key starter when lineman Austin Sorrelle went down with a severely sprained ankle just before half. This is the Wolverines third starter that has been injured in as many weeks. The Wolverines responded in the second half by outscoring the Warriors 19 – 0. The final score was 35 – 32. Another heartbreaking loss for the Wolverines, making it the fourth game they have lost this season by five points or less. Hold your head high Wolverines. Although it was a loss, and I’m glad it hurts, we see your efforts on the field. Congratulations to the three athletes being recognized for their performances on the field Friday night.
Offensive POW – Makinley Everett – Senior QB. Makinley was responsible for over 400 yards of total offense Friday night. The senior quarterback was 28-of-40 passing for 378 yards with 5 touchdowns through the air.
Defensive POW – Cody Williams – Junior QB. If you drove by the stadium and rolled your window down for ten seconds, there is a good chance you heard Cody Williams name over the speaker, especially if the Wolverines were on defense. Cody was around the ball all night. He finished the night with 26 total tackles of which 20 were solo.
Lineman of the week POW – Isaac Pangle – Junior OL. Due to several lineman going down, as mentioned, Isaac is one of those players that has stepped up unselfishly. Not many volunteer to be those guys up front who never get credit, but do the dirty work. Isaac did a great job Friday night on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball up front.
Great job guys!!
