Multiple Teams · Catching You Up On Winter Sports Teams At DCHS

While you were Christmas shopping or sitting in the recliner watching “A Christmas Story”, Dade County HS had a few sports teams competing in a couple of Christmas tournaments.

The Lady Wolverine Basketball team continued their hot start to the season winning two out of three at the Southcrest Holiday Tournament hosted by Gordon Lee.  On Thursday 12/19, the girls opened up with a win against AAA Lakeview Fort-Oglethorpe by a score of 54 – 31.  On Friday 12/20, the Lady Wolverines competed against the host team, Gordon Lee, by a score of 49 – 46.  On Saturday 12/21, the Lady Wolverines were a little short-handed with a few players battling sickness.  The Lady Wolverines lost to Class AAAAA Cass HS 46 – 51.  Congratulations to seniors Tori Williams and Megan Schauer for making the All-Tournament Team.  The Lady Wolverines, led by Coach Regena Logan, are now 9 – 3 overall and 3 – 1 in Region 7AA play.  Their next game will be at home, January 3rd, versus Region 7AA opponent Coosa.

The Boys Basketball team also competed in the Southcrest Holiday Tournament at Gordon Lee winning one out of two games played.  The Wolverines lost their opening game of the tournament to a good Class AAA team, Lakeview Fort-Oglethorpe.  The Warriors (10-3 on the season) defeated Dade County 77 – 49.  The Wolverines bounced back the following night and competed hard like they have all season long.  Dade County defeated the Hixson Wildcats by a score of 74 – 64.  Congratulations to Austin Holcomb for being named to the All Tournament Team.  The senior averaged 12 points, five rebounds and 4 steals per game in the tournament.  The Boys Basketball team has been exciting to watch so far this season.  Overall, the Wolverines, led by Coach Travis Branson, are 3 – 8 overall and 1 – 3 in Region 7AA play.  Their next game will also be at home, January 3rd, following the girls, versus Coosa.

Last, but not least, the Dade County Wrestling team traveled to Melbourne Beach, Florida.  The team was able to enjoy a little beach time before traveling to Harmony High School to compete in their invitational.  The Wrestling Wolverines took 3rd place for the second consecutive year out of seventeen teams.  This was a very difficult tournament where many of the teams the Wolverines faced were schools three to four times the size of Dade County High School.  Notable wrestlers who were recently recognized for their efforts on Twitter by @SeWrestle were Cody Williams (182), Ian Howell (285) and Jake Gatlin (106).  Jake Gatlin went 7-0 at Harmony High School while pinning six of the seven wrestlers he faced.  The Wolverines will compete next at the Chattanooga Central High School Invitational on Saturday, January 4th.  The DCHS Wrestlers are now 32 – 5 overall!

Congratulations to all the Winter Sports Teams on a job well done so far this 19 – 20 season.  Come support your Wolverines as they try to open a new decade with a bang!!
