Game Recap

The Wolverines welcomed the Chattooga Indians to town for their final region game of the regular season this past Wednesday night. A good crowd was on hand to support the Wolverines as they competed for an opportunity to host a first round playoff series in the GHSA State playoffs which begin Friday, April 28th. Greg Templeton started the game on the mound, in what was a back and forth affair for the first few innings. Harley Walker came in as relief in the third and finished the game. In the sixth inning, lightning struck, literally. After a 45 minute delay, the Wolverines came into hit in the home half of the sixth inning trailing by a score of 6-2. The Wolverine bats were smoking. Harley Walker began the inning with a double. Grep Templeton reached second and earned an RBI after the left fielder dropped a long fly ball. Coby McBryar followed with a double of his own which brought in Greg Templeton and Chase Bradford to make it 6-5. Seth Swader continued the hot inning, tying the game at 6-6, with a double off the wall to left field. The game eventually had to be decided in extra innings. On senior night, the script played out perfectly for the home team. Senior, Bryce Nethery, stepped up to the plate with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. His base hit to right field brought in Coby McBryar, also a senior, for the winning run. The Wolverines finished the regular season 17-8 overall, and 11-3 in region 7AA. After an 0-3 start, the baseball team reeled off eleven straight region wins to earn the chance to host a first round playoff series. Congratulations on a great regular season!! Come out and support the Wolverines as they compete against Lamar County on Friday, April 28th in the state playoffs. Game times will likely be at 5:00/7:30, but this needs to be confirmed with Lamar County. Please check the Dade Sentinel for times next week. The teams will play a double header on Friday and will play one game on Saturday, if needed. The playoffs are a best of three series. Good luck Wolverines!!
